Alma Hunt Offering
Living Faith
RRCB Goal: $10,000
For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, so also faith apart from works is dead. —James 2:26
The annual offering for Virginia missions was named for Alma Hunt (1909-2008), a native Virginian who was known worldwide for her missions service and her unswerving dedication to the cause of Christ. This offering supports ministries for the Baptist General Association of Virginia (BGAV) and HerMission (formerly Women’s Missionary Union of Virginia—WMUV). Designated offering envelopes are available in the pew racks, or you can give online.
Who Is Alma Hunt?
“Alma Hunt (“Miss Alma” to most) served as executive director of Woman’s Missionary Union (WMU) at the national level, from 1948-1974. Originally from Roanoke, she completed degrees at Longwood and Columbia (NY), before moving into her new position with WMU.”
“During Miss Alma’s long term of service promoting mission endeavors, she inspired women and girls all over the world to lead, pray, and love people as God loves them, through her infectious compassion and care for others—serving in over 90 countries! Later, she was instrumental in forming the women’s department of the Baptist World Alliance at the global level and was active in the Virginia Baptist Historical Society [VBHS] and the Baptist Joint Committee for Religious Liberty [BJC].”
Disaster Response: Rebuilding with Hope
After Hurricane Helene devastated Taylor’s Valley, Carl and Linda’s home was destroyed. Separated during the storm, they were miraculously reunited. Soon after, Impact Disaster Response volunteers arrived, bringing hope, comfort, and practical help. They stayed, listened, prayed, and worked alongside survivors with compassion and determination. Now, 83 homes have been beautifully restored in southwest Virginia, and eight families are receiving new homes—including Carl and Linda, whose joy and gratitude are overflowing.
Thanks to your generous gifts and faithful prayers, this ministry continues to respond in crisis, rebuild communities, and restore lives in Christ’s name. Together, we reflect God’s love in action and presence.
Prayer Focus: Pray for disaster survivors and the volunteers who bring restoration and healing to broken communities.
Community Missions
Churches across Virginia are rediscovering their role as vital community hubs. From Splash Camp at Cape Charles Baptist Church to hosting meaningful conversations, care, and celebrations, congregations are actively reclaiming their space as centers of connection, hope, and belonging in their communities. Alma Hunt Offering grants empower churches to meet local needs creatively and compassionately, providing crucial resources that enable impactful outreach and ongoing, sustainable support.
As churches reach beyond their walls, they are embodying James’ call to a living faith—one that engages, serves, and blesses its neighbors in practical and transformative ways every day, making a real difference in countless lives.
Prayer Focus: Pray for congregations as they seek to engage their communities with relevance, compassion, and love.
Sisters Who Care – Mission in Action
“Walking in My Worth,” a HerMission Sisters Who Care event, uplifts women through worship, wellness, and mission. This powerful gathering offers a sacred space for African American women to connect, reflect, and be encouraged in their faith journeys. Through heartfelt worship and honest conversations, women were reminded of their value and purpose in Christ. Attendees donated over 300 baby items to families in need—living their faith with generosity and joy. Their actions reflected a deep commitment to serving others and walking confidently in their God-given worth.
Women left renewed and inspired, saying: “I needed to be with godly sisters,” and “I’m grateful for a new view of mission.” Many returned home with a renewed sense of calling and community.
Prayer Focus: Pray for women in ministry, especially those whom God calls to lead and serve in their communities.
From Coping to Hoping in Ukraine
War in Ukraine has displaced thousands, creating urgent physical, emotional, and spiritual needs. Through BGAV’s partnership with Romanian churches and Project Ruth, “Hope Corners” offer safe havens and vital support for refugees seeking comfort and stability. These centers provide counseling, practical aid, and Christ’s love to those rebuilding lives.
Volunteers welcome families daily, listen carefully to their stories, and meet immediate needs with compassion and care.
This ministry shows faith in action— helping people move from trauma to trust and despair to hope. Your generous support greatly expands these safe spaces, allowing more refugees to find healing and restoration.
Prayer Focus: Pray for peace in Ukraine and for those aiding families emotionally and spiritually during this difficult time.
