Children’s Ministry

We at River Road Church value children as a unique creations and gifts from God.  As a church, we make a commitment during our parent/child/church dedications that we will be models of faith and love to these families and especially the child in our midst. We covenant that we will guide them and uphold them on their journey of faith. Children have a lot to teach us about God, about our world, about how to love our neighbors, and about how to be faithful followers of Jesus. As we teach and guide them, so children teach and guide us.

Our children’s ministry offers opportunities for children and their families to become disciples of Jesus. They learn to love God and love their neighbors as themselves by learning scripture, fellowshipping together, worshipping, serving, and singing.

Education

River Road Church believes in creating educational environments that are developmentally appropriate and fun for every child. To achieve this goal, we have created spaces for each age group suited to their needs from birth to fifth grade.

Sunday Mornings

9:45 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Sunday School
11:00 a.m. WorshipCare (infants – kindergarten remain in their rooms, grades 1-5 attend worship)

Following doxology in worship – Children’s Church (grades 1-2 in chapel)

Preschoolers (infant – kindergarten) enjoy Sunday school with extended care during the worship hour. Our emphasis with this age group focuses on learning about God through playing, singing, listening to stories, and developing relationships with their church family.

To assist you in navigating our church, you may find this Campus Map helpful.

Children in elementary grades meet for Sunday School by grade levels. They have a brief music time as one group, and then go to their separate classes. Our elementary curriculum follows the Revised Common Lectionary, which allows the children to hear stories in Sunday School that they will hear again in worship and Children’s Church.

Worship for Children

Worship Bags

To enhance worship for children, children’s bulletins and worship bags for all ages are in the Narthex (foyer at the back of the Sanctuary). These bags are intended to help children process what they are hearing and seeing as they worship with their families. If you have trouble locating either the bulletins or a worship bag, an usher will be glad to help you.

Children’s Church

For the first part of the service, all children grades 1-5 remain in the Sanctuary to worship with their families.  Children in grades 1 and 2 may leave the Sanctuary following the singing of the Doxology. They will meet the Children’s Church leader for the day (listed in the bulletin) at the front of the Sanctuary. Children are then taken to the Chapel to continue their worship. Third through fifth graders remain in the Sanctuary to worship with their families.
