If you are with others this morning, feel free to do the following devotional together. If you are alone, enjoy this moment of reflection. Know that you all are held and prayed for. – Rev. Marnie Fisher-Ingram
“When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let us go now to Bethlehem and see this thing that has taken place, which the Lord has made known to us.” Luke 2:15, NRSV
O Come, All Ye Faithful
Lyrics and tune attr. John Francis Wade
O come, all ye faithful, joyful and triumphant,
O come ye, O come ye, to Bethlehem.
Come and behold Him, born the King of angels;
Refrain:
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
Christ the Lord.
Sing, choirs of angels, sing in exultation;
O sing, all ye citizens of heav’n above!
Glory to God, all glory in the highest;
Refrain
Yea, Lord, we greet Thee, born this happy morning;
Jesus, to Thee be all glory giv’n;
Word of the Father, now in flesh appearing.
Refrain
We’ve waited and hoped for Jesus to come. The presents have been opened and we have celebrated. One of my favorite Christmas hymns is this one, O Come, All Ye Faithful. The version I love the most is sung by Amy Grant. It’s simple and sweet. It brings to life this hymn of joyful celebration.
The Christmas season is meant to be one of joy and delight because the Christ we have waited and hoped for has arrived. The child who will bring about much hope, love, and healing has come to us. It is these gifts of hope and delight we hope that you find this day and in this season of Christmas as we come and adore the child who has come.
What have you been waiting for this Christmas season?
What do you hope for as we head into the New Year?
How will you show others the gift of Jesus to this world?
Holy God, thank you for the gift of your Son who has come after a season of waiting. May our lives be a reflection of who he is in this world. Amen.
