Margaret and I have been members of River Road for thirty-three and a half years. I have been a staff member for twenty-four years. During all of that time, you have given us many gifts. Words of encouragement, pats-on-the-back, public appreciation for a task well done, invitations to your family events, being asked to participate in a wedding or the dedication of your children, are but a few examples of your love and thoughtfulness.
On Sunday morning, September 24th, you outdid yourself. Recognizing this was my” third retirement,” a reception seemed appropriate. I cannot describe the surprise when Daniel asked me to come the front of the church during the morning worship service. When Daniel announced the church had bestowed the title of Minister of Youth Emeritus upon me, I can truly say I was lost for words. To be included with Dr. Slatton, Dr. Clingenpeel and Carl Freeman is an honor I could not imagine obtaining.
It has been an honor to serve at River Road. You have supported my ministry and my family. I cannot thank you enough. Please know the work is not over. I am excited about a new minister coming and staying for twenty years. There is still work to be done and I shall enjoy discovering new avenues for service. Thank you again for your love and support.
