Tis the season when we struggle with what to give to people we love. Erma Bombeck  once famously remarked about regrets people share toward the end of their life: “I wish I had spent more time at the office….” What about the challenge of trying to find something for someone who even seems to have everything they need? I’m working on an Advent /Christmas list inspired by the One Who gave of himself—so here go my attempts:

  • I will take the dear lady who prepares so many meals for me every week to a meal out twice a week this coming year—and pay for it….
  • I will listen more often and work less at home
  • I will call my son who lives out of state twice a week, and visit him and his family four times in 2015.
  • I will spend three hours a week with my grandson who lives in town (this will be so hard!)
  • I will call & talk to my out of state granddchildren once a week—when they want me to….
  • I will call my brothers—who don’t call me—twice a month
  • I will take a vacation with my wife three times this year
  • I will volunteer with and spend time with  a mission project  this year
  • I will contribute to and work with three charities this year
  • I will go to four events I don’t care for this year—for the sake of someone important to me
