The Rev. Libby M. Grammer has served River Road Church for more than three years as pastoral intern, Interim Minister, and as Pastoral Resident. In each role, she has excelled in her work and has grown in her calling.

Serving our church as Pastoral Resident has provided Libby a focused time of preparation to be a Senior Pastor. Her work and study among us has given experience and training in the various aspects of pastoral ministry in order to prepare her to take on a pastoral call.

Therefore, it is with a good mixture of excitement and sorrow that we announce that today, June 17, 2018, First Baptist Church of Martinsville, Virginia called Rev. Grammer as their next Senior Pastor. First Baptist is a longstanding flagship church in Virginia Baptist life, located near the North Carolina border. The church is a dynamic and dedicated congregation, seeking to be a beacon of light and hope in its community. Libby will do well there.

In addition to focusing upon beginning her ministry well in Martinsville, Libby will be busy in the next several weeks tying up her ministry here at River Road, selling her home, finishing her doctoral degree project—all as she and Will are expecting a baby girl this September! The Grammer-Underwood family requests our prayers over all this transition.

Rev. Grammer’s last Sunday among us will be July 29, 2018, and she will preach for us in morning worship.

Libby, River Road Church is immensely proud of you, and we’ve benefited from the good and faithful work you’ve done here. As you depart, we pray God’s blessings upon you. In the words of Nobel Peace Prize recipient Dag Hammarskjöld, “For all that has been—thanks. For all that will be—yes.”
