SUMMARY:Information Meeting: 2027 St. Cuthbert’s Way Pilgrim Walk
DESCRIPTION:Time & Location: 6:00 p.m. on Zoom\nAn Information Meeting will be held on Zoom on Wednesday\, July 29\, at 6:00PM. If you need to discuss it individually\, please reach out to Rev. Anna Miller to schedule a separate meeting. You will be sent a Zoom link when you fill out the Sign Up Form. \nRiver Road Church Board of Christian Education & Spiritual Formation is offering an opportunity for those who wish to participate in a pilgrim walk in 2027\, similar yet different than the Camino Inglés walked by others in 2025. We will be partnering with Rev. Anna Miller through her new LLC\, Wild Compass Creatives. She will serve as host to the group and provide the necessary walk information\, preparation details\, presence on the trail\, and materials for spiritual reflection. \nAbout the Walk\nPotential Dates: April 27-May 6\, 2027 \nSt. Cuthbert’s Way is a 62-mile long-distance trail that is a well-marked\, easy-to-moderate walk through the border regions between Scotland and England. Weaving through varied landscapes of woods\, hills\, moorlands\, and along the coast\, this route follows the footsteps of St. Cuthbert\, from Melrose Abbey where he began his religious journey in 650AD\, and travels to his final resting place on Holy Island\, also known as Lindisfarne. There are historical sites along the way such as medieval abbeys\, castles\, battlefields\, villages\, and ancient market towns. The walk finishes with a walk across the tidal sands to Lindisfarne\, one of England’s most famous early Christian sites. \nSt. Cuthbert\, in his younger years was a shepherd who entered the Northumbrian monastery of Melrose in 651AD. After successfully overcoming the plague\, he succeeded the prior there\, who succumbed to the illness. He assisted plague victims\, served the people across the countryside\, and evangelized the Northumbrian region. He protected birds\, was known as a miracle worker\, and by nature was a hermit\, which led him to a life devoted to prayer following his 676AD retirement. \nFollowing his burial on the Holy Island\, his body was removed in 875 to protect it from Viking raids\, being carried throughout northeastern England and finally placed at Durham Cathedral. It was a pilgrim site until it was destroyed by King Henry VII in 1538. A small chapel that was built in the 14th century now stands on the site of his final hermitage. \nThere are prayers and writings of the Northumbrian community that are able to serve as guides for reflection on this meaningful journey\, of which several will be made available to those who participate. \nCost for the Walk\nThese are approximate figures which will be adjusted when formal the reservation is made with local entities and based on exchange rate from U.S. dollar to euro. \n$1845/person – double room (double bed or 2 twins)\n$2485/person – single room (includes single supplement cost) \nWe do not want cost to be a barrier for anyone who wishes to go on this Pilgrimage. If you are in need of assistance\, you may speak to Daniel Glaze privately. \nWhat the cost Includes: \nComfortable hotels or inns w/ private restrooms\nDaily breakfast\nDaily luggage transfers\nItinerary & walk details\nPilgrimage host expenses \nWhat the cost DOES NOT include: \nPassport fees\nETA (Electronic Travel Authorization\nAirline Ticket & Ground Transportation\nLunches & Dinners\nIncidentals. SUMMARY:Camino Pilgrimage
DESCRIPTION:Trip: May 4-15\, 2025\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n A wonderful group from River Road has been preparing to head to Spain to walk on one portion of a long-traveled road\, which part of a sacred journey to the cathedral in Santiago de Compostela. This is where the bones of Saint James are said to buried. Pilgrim pathways make their way to this sacred space from many countries and have been walked on for centuries. Many people walk for spiritual reasons\, carrying a concern from their life in prayer as they walk\, or to create openness within themselves to seek closeness with God. Others walk to learn and grow or to work out some issues within themselves. The motivations and purposes can vary widely depending on the individual. \nOur group first met in March of 2024 as an interest group. Out of this meeting a group of twelve individuals committed to undertaking this journey. They have been walking\, praying\, reading\, and planning in order to be ready for this adventure\, which will begin on May 4th. \nAs our church family\, we humbly ask for your prayerful support as we make our way there and as we walk several days towards Santiago. We will be grateful if you join us in prayer for: \n\nthe release of anything that holds us back or can keep us from being fully present before God\, one another\, or the experience.\nrelationships and connections within our group\nexchanges we will have with those we will meet along the way\nsafe travels and walking\nstrength for each days’ journey and wisdom to know our limits\nour openness to receive from the Lord\, whatever we need\nthe learning\, growth\, blessings\, and challenges that will meet us\n\nEven as we hope to be in your hearts while we are there\, we will carry you in ours. Along the way\, many pilgrims will carry with them\, prayers of others who would like to have someone or some circumstance remembered by their friend who is walking. These concerns will be carried as we walk and we will plant them along the way of leave them at an altar there\, holding with you the needs. If you wish to simply put your name on a slip of paper without an explanation\, we will remember your unmentioned concern and carry you on our hearts and in our prayers. We will carry your shared concerns and be eager to tell you about our pilgrimage after we return. To submit a prayer concern\, you can do one of the following before we leave: \n\nemail a concern to annapmiller@rrcb.org which will be given to someone within the group to carry\nwrite a note and offer it to one of our pilgrims who are going\n\nPilgrim Participants\nLaura Lee ChandlerMike ClingenpeelVivian ClingenpeelBrad EthingtonPam EthingtonBev GeisslerNorma HaysSteve LarsonAnna MillerDean MillerGreg SmithSue Smith \nBlessing in the Courtyard on Sunday\, May 4\, 2025 at 9:30 a.m.

Suzanne L. Vinson\nReverend Suzanne L. Vinson (she/her/hers)  is an artist\, retreat leader\, and minister living an intentional life toward wholeness\, kindhearted listening\, and compassionate care.  Suzanne has served in roles as a pastor\, chaplain\, bereavement group facilitator\, and minister over the last 20 years.  At the heart of her ministry is walking alongside others in times of grief\, crisis\, and every day living as they experience healing through creativity\, reflection\, and mindful practices.  Suzanne creates soul wisdom art\, meant to deepen the experience of life\, delight\, and connection. \nSuzanne holds a Master of Education from Mississippi College and a Master of Divinity from Baptist Theological Seminary in Richmond\, VA\, with post-grad coursework done in bereavement care and chaplaincy. She completed coursework in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) with the Center for Mindfulness Studies at UMass. She has facilitated bereavement groups\, retreats\, and studio gatherings since 2003\, and finds group facilitation to be endlessly fascinating and rewarding. She has led mindfulness retreats for young adult cancer survivors\, healthcare staff\, and faith-based community groups. Suzanne specializes in short-term ministry based in pastoral care\, chaplaincy\, and creative spirituality. She just completed a role in a local congregation after nearly six years of pastoral ministry. \nSuzanne is a sensitive and gracious facilitator of the healing arts utilizing guided meditation\, visualization\, and mindful creative practice as primary tools to engage both the intellect and the human spirit. Suzanne’s soul work – gathering folks – is invitational with a sincere intention that those who gather release burdens and fears of expectations and begin to engage in self care with a table set as a creative banquet. Suzanne helps open the heart for self healing. She engages people at the depth of her core for the healing energy of the world to manifest. Retreats and gatherings in Suzanne’s studio focus on spirituality\, mindfulness\, and creativity. She loves traveling and carries her “traveling studio” as she leads retreats\, facilities workshops\, and speaks to groups. Suzanne offers her art to others as a means of daily delight and soul care. Her art\, retreats\, and gatherings are creative yoga for the soul. \nA creator since the early days of mud pies\, and grass and blooming soups in rain water\, Suzanne would paint or color and play\, play play. 4H was an avenueof exploring through travel\, conversation\, and working with her hands. Suzanne started as a minister in the church in her early 20s\, but before that\, she babysat and sold plants at a nursery\, which carried her through college. During her undergraduate days and her first masters degree\, she worked at the preschool at the college – cooking and teaching in the afternoons. She enjoyed gathering the art supplies and creating projects for the 3-\, 4-\, and 5-year-olds to create. Her calling expanded from those times. When ministering in church Suzanne facilitated bereavement groups before moving more into chaplaincy. A call to the heart led her to move towards a space of her own\, and so she found and moved into her current studio space so she could welcome groups into the home of her art. She relies strongly upon the intersection of art and spirituality\, the healing work of gathering folks together\, and showing up for speaking engagements\, retreats\, and groups… believing that something wonderful happens when all are sharing the same air and space for a period of time. \nFind her art\, book\, Broken Wide Whole: Prayers for Daily Living\, and info at suzannelvinson.com
