Upcoming Events

Service of Baptism & Holy Communion
Sunday, March 4, 2018
2:00 p.m., Chapel

This service is a special time in the life of our church as we have the privilege of bearing witness to and celebrating this important step in Mollie Ingram’s journey of faith. We gather as a family of faith to remember our own baptism, and to be a source of encouragement and companionship for these who would follow their Lord and Savior in the ordinance of baptism.

If your child is in Youth or Crusader Choir and would like to sing at Mollie’s baptism, please email kimcrowley@rrcb.org.

Rise Against Hunger
Saturday, March 17, 2018
9:30-11:30 a.m., Fellowship Hall

We will be packaging (at least) 10,000 nutritiously sound meals for distribution through the Rise Against Hunger network. The event begins at 9:30 am and will last until 11:30 or all meals are packaged. The Board of Missions has contributed $3,000 towards packaging our first 10,000 meals.

This is a great opportunity for children to participate alongside adults in a project that directly impacts the hungry in our community and around the world. Children 5 and older can participate in the event.

Volunteers

  • 8-10 Volunteers are needed to assist with set up beginning at 8:00 am.
  • At least 60 volunteers are needed to assist with the packaging of the meals.
  • You do not need to volunteer for the full duration of the event. You can sign up to volunteer for a time that will suit your schedule.

Palm Sunday Service of Worship
Sunday, March 25, 2018
11:00 a.m., Sanctuary

Palm Sunday is the day we remember the “triumphal entry” of Jesus into Jerusalem, exactly one week before His resurrection. Palms are distributed at this service. The processional will be led by the children waving palms, reminiscent of the crowd greeting Jesus. A reception will follow the service in the Fellowship Hall.

Labyrinth Walk & Stations of the Cross
Monday-Saturday, March 26-30, 2018
9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Fellowship Hall

Our canvas labyrinth is a replica of the one originally laid in the twelfth century in the oor of the Chartes Cathedral in France. As Holy Week comes to a close, River Road Church cordially invites you to experience a meditative walk. Written material on the last words of Christ as well as material about the labyrinth’s history and symbolism will be available. We suggest that you allow approximately 45 to 60 minutes for the labyrinth experience.

The Stations of the Cross will be in the Fellowship Hall along with the Labyrinth. The walk takes no longer than a lunch break. The fourteen Stations of the Cross trace Jesus’ path from Pilate’s house to Golgotha to His tomb, mixing some events that we nd in Scripture with some that come to us via the tradition of the church. Each station will have a written explanation and prayer. You may walk and read these to yourself or come in a group and have a person read at each station.

Maundy Thursday Service of Remembrance & Tenebrae
Thursday, March 29, 2018
7:30 p.m., Sanctuary

Childcare provided by request; please contact Kim Crowley

This evening will focus on two important events. First, we observe a special Communion service in memory of Jesus’ Last Supper with His disciples. Second, Jesus’ self-giving act for our salvation is observed through Tenebrae, a ritual in which the gradual extinguishing of the candles occurs while the story of Jesus’ trial and cruci xion is read.

Easter Service of Worship
Sunday, April 1, 2018
11:00 a.m., Sanctuary

The service is marked by joy and emphasizes the Easter theme of new life. We will worship together at 11:00 a.m. Sunday School classes are planning their own fellowship gatherings before worship. If you’d like to attend a class gathering that morning, please ask one of the greeters for assistance.
