Michael Kellett and Sheryl Johnson just this past week have alerted us as believers to the importance of caring for and assisting the family of God around the world—beginning in our own Jerusalem—Richmond—with special attention to the most vulnerable people in the world: children in crises. I’m sharing today a select list of organizations that I support monthly and trust to “deliver” resources where I cannot—in places of greatest need:
In “Jerusalem”
- CARITAS: Offer shelter and work for selected wounded people
- CrossOver Ministry: Provide care for those with limited medical support
- FeedMore/Meals on Wheels: Collect and deliver essential meals
Beyond Our City Limits
- Bread for the World: Lobby Congress to release surplus food overseas
- CARE: Provide food and shelter in war damaged territories
- The Carter Center: Work to eradicate & prevent disease in several countries
- Doctors Without Borders: Attend to medical needs in troubled places
- Mercy Corps: Provide emergency help in drought/devastated spots
- Oxfam: Partner with families to provide a beginning food source locally
- Seeds of Hope Publishers: Hunger education team housed at Seventh & James BC, where I was pastor, in Waco, Texas
- UNHCR: Care for vulnerable children in places of squalor and abuse
- Women For Women International: Provide “start up” work to sustain individual families
There are many other worthy care groups. Choose your avenues of care!
