Almost a half-century ago Vernon Richardson, third pastor of River Road Church, delivered a challenge that River Road would become “a full-time instrument in the hand of God.” You can read his sermon in The Pulpit Ministry of the Pastors of River Road Church, Baptist, beginning on page 81.

Anyone who reads the church’s calendar for the month of February will recognize that this dream is becoming a reality.

On February 2 our WMU Connectors will host a Healthy Heart Tea for women in our church. The next afternoon, February 3, a harpsichord concert will be played in our Chapel. On the morning of February 4, Joyful Hearts, a Bible study for women, will open its Spring session. The day after that the Men’s Fellowship Breakfast will gather at 7 a.m. in the Reception Room, and two hours later the newly-formed Job Search Support Group will have its weekly gathering. On February 6 I will lead the third session of my Bible study on Galatians. That weekend, February 8-9, a church-wide retreat will gather at Richmond Hill for 24 hours. Following worship on Sunday, February 10, the Lenten Lunch for families will take place in our Fellowship Hall.

These opportunities for Bible study, prayer, relationship-building, recreation, missions and fun exist for men and women, couples and children, young and older adults. This list does not include our regular schedule for Sunday school, worship and committee meetings. Later in the month CARITAS will be hosted by our church, and we will open the season of Lent with Ash Wednesday worship.

Dr. Richardson called for us to be a seven-day-a-week place with something for almost everyone. There are very few days we are not already that. Find your place in the broadening reach of our ministry.

Blessings,
Mike
